This year, Learning Economy Foundation was invited to join the UNESCO Global Education Coalition. As a member of the coalition, LEF commits to support, promote, and advance the three flagships of the Global Education Coalition. These three flagships are: universal connectivity, empowering and protecting teachers, and gender equality.
As part of this commitment, LEF will utilize existing communication channels, support and host relevant events and webinars, create and disseminate information, offer strategic thought leadership in working groups and open discussions, and support the development of new technologies in support of these three missions.
The Global Education Coalition, which was launched by UNESCO in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, is “a platform for collaboration and exchange to protect the right to education during this unprecedented disruption and beyond”. More than 175 members from around the globe make up the coalition, including stakeholders from the UN, civil society, academia, NGOs and the private sector. Each member offers free services to countries across the globe to support distance education for learners amidst the current global pandemic. To date, over 200 projects have launched as part of the coalition, impacting more than 400 million learners and 12 million teachers in 112 countries.
Joining the Global Education Coalition is a critical milestone for LEF, as we continue to strive for our decade resolution to solve Sustainable Development Goals 4 & 8. “Learning Economy Foundation set out from the beginning with the Sustainable Development Goals in mind”, says LEF CEO & Chairman Chris Purifoy. “The Global Education Coalition further establishes our commitment to the broader goals of the UN Family of Organizations. We couldn’t be happier to offer our support”.
